Hey there community and welcome to the 33rd installment of Smart AnSwerS.
Yesterday, two teams of Splunk interns presented their Splunk4Good Hack projects in a contest where they had to create an app using public open source data in a way that could highlight issues affecting different communities, build awareness, and spark constructive conversations. I had the opportunity to help judge the contest and see what awesome work some of the Splunkterns put together throughout their time at Splunk for the Summer. BIG congratulations to the winners Brooke Wenig and Aamir Goriawala for their app using public San Francisco crime data to find trends for certain types of criminal activity throughout different districts in San Francisco. They made great use of Splunk’s visualizations and custom UI capabilities for end users to find correlations as they see fit based on time, district, and/or type of crime. Keep on the lookout for their app on Splunkbase later this year after some finishing touches are made. Cheers!

How does one change results table font size in a dashboard for an app?
jtrucks was building an app with a dashboard to view on a large display, but was having trouble figuring out what to change in the app’s dashboard.css file to increase the font size of table results. The default of 12px was too small to display on a large screen. alacercogitatus, hailing from the land of IRC, bestows his CSS wizardry as an answer, showing the proper code to add to the file and how to invalidate the Splunk cache for the change to take effect.

How do I export a chart as a high-quality image?
peamc needed to create a sharp, high-quality image of a chart, but after converting the Simple XML dashboard to HTML and converting the div/chart SVG into a PNG file, the quality was subpar. chumberr provided a solution using HTML2Canvas and JavaScript to meet peamc’s exact requirement.

After I created a dashboard as one user and shared permissions, why is another user getting “Error in “DataModelEvaluator:” Data model was not found”?
bidahor13 shared permissions for a dashboard, but the search kept generating an error that the “Data model was not found” for other users. This is a common issue posted on Answers, and Splunk technical writer frobinson tackles the problem, reminding the community to check permissions high and low for similar error messages. She references documentation that notes permissions need to be checked for more than the dashboard itself, but all associated knowledge objects for the search populating the data.
